Madrid Airport (MAD) to Cívitas Metropolitano (former Wanda Metropolitano): complete transport guide
The Cívitas Metropolitano (still commonly called Wanda Metropolitano) is Atlético de Madrid's home stadium in San Blas-Canillejas, in the eastern outskirts of Madrid. It is the closest top-flight stadium to Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport — only 7 km — but it sits OUTSIDE the M-30 ring, so the €30 fixed taxi fare does NOT apply.
How do the options compare?
| Option | Operator | Duration | Price | Frequency |

| EMT 28 from Avenida América | EMT Madrid | 40 min combined | €6.50 | Every 8–12 min |
| Metered taxi (NOT fixed €30 — stadium is outside M-30) | Asociación Gremial del Auto-Taxi de Madrid | 15–20 min | €15–25 metered | On demand |

- Price: €4.50–5.00
- Frequency: Every 5–7 min

Metered taxi (NOT fixed €30 — stadium is outside M-30)?
The stadium is OUTSIDE M-30, so the €30 flat fare does NOT apply. Meter-based T2 rate runs €15–25 plus €1.60 luggage surcharge.
- Operator: Asociación Gremial del Auto-Taxi de Madrid
- Duration: 15–20 min
- Price: €15–25 metered
- Frequency: On demand
- Where to board: Official rank at each terminal
- Notes: Confirm 'tarifa T2' and ask for the receipt. Some drivers may attempt the €30 flat fare — refuse it.

Cabify / Uber / Bolt direct?
Often cheaper than the metered taxi. Drivers know the stadium gates (Puerta 1–8) — specify which one matches your ticket.
- Operator: Cabify, Uber, Bolt
- Duration: 15–20 min
- Price: €12–20
- Frequency: On demand via app
- Where to board: VTC zones (T1 floor 0, T4 floor –1)
- Notes: Match-day surge pushes prices to €25–35; Metro is then more cost-effective.
Atlético Madrid official match-day shuttle?
On big matches Atlético runs a free shuttle from Plaza Castilla Metro to the stadium. From the airport, take Metro Line 8 + Line 10 to Plaza Castilla (~30 min) and join the shuttle queue.
- Operator: Atlético de Madrid
- Duration: 30 min
- Price: Included with some tickets
- Frequency: Match-day only
- Where to board: Metro Plaza Castilla
- Notes: Check the club website for shuttle availability per match.
When should you pick each option?
- Metro 8+7: Fastest and cheapest at all hours Metro runs.
- Express bus + EMT 28: Backup when Metro is suspended.
- Metered taxi: Only for late-night arrivals after Metro closes (01:30).
- Cabify / Uber / Bolt: Cheaper than taxi off-peak.
- Atlético shuttle: Free on match days from Plaza Castilla — use if you're already in the city centre.
What are the practical tips?
- The stadium is OUTSIDE M-30 — refuse any taxi driver attempting the €30 flat fare; insist on the meter T2.
- Metro Estadio Metropolitano has two exits — northern for Gates 1–4, southern for Gates 5–8.
- Arrive 90 minutes before kickoff on Champions League nights — bag-check queues are slow.
- Avoid driving on match days — parking around the stadium is residents-only with strict towing.
