Cercanías C-1 direct train to Sol?

Renfe's commuter line C-1 runs directly between Terminal 4 station and Madrid–Sol underground station with no transfers. It is the most predictable option in terms of time and the cheapest scheduled service.

  • Operator: Renfe Cercanías
  • Duration: 25 min
  • Price: €2.60
  • Frequency: Every 30 min
  • Where to board: Terminal 4, level –1 (signposted 'Cercanías')
  • Notes: Only Terminal 4 has the station. From T1/T2/T3 take the free shuttle bus to T4 (≈10 min) then walk to the Cercanías platforms.

Express Aeropuerto bus (line 203)?

The yellow Express Aeropuerto bus runs 24 hours a day from all terminals to the city. Daytime services stop at O'Donnell, Cibeles (5 min walk to Sol) and Atocha; night services terminate at Atocha.

  • Operator: EMT Madrid
  • Duration: 40 min
  • Price: €5.00
  • Frequency: Every 15–35 min, 24 h/day
  • Where to board: T1, T2, T4 outside arrivals
  • Notes: Pay on board with contactless card, single-trip ticket or Tarjeta MultiTravel. Luggage is free.

Metro Line 8 + Line 1 (via Nuevos Ministerios)?

Take Line 8 (pink) toward Nuevos Ministerios, change to Line 10, then Line 1 at Tribunal to Sol. Includes the mandatory €3 airport supplement on top of the single ticket.

  • Operator: Metro de Madrid
  • Duration: 40 min
  • Price: €4.50–5.00
  • Frequency: Every 5–7 min
  • Where to board: Stations at T2 and T4
  • Notes: Buy a Tarjeta Multi (rechargeable card, €2.50 deposit) and load a single airport ticket. Suitcases on Metro can be awkward at peak hours.

Official taxi (fixed €33 city-centre fare)?

All official white taxis with a red diagonal stripe charge a flat €33 to/from anywhere inside the M-30 ring road, which includes Sol. The fare is fixed by Madrid City Council and shown on a sticker on every taxi.

  • Operator: Asociación Gremial del Auto-Taxi de Madrid
  • Duration: 25–40 min
  • Price: €33 fixed
  • Frequency: On demand at official ranks
  • Where to board: Official taxi rank at each terminal
  • Notes: Insist on the fixed fare ('tarifa fija aeropuerto'). Pay by card if you prefer — all official Madrid taxis must accept it.

Cabify / Uber / Bolt?

Private hire (VTC) cars are available through Cabify, Uber Black/X and Bolt. Pick-up areas are signposted separately from taxi ranks at each terminal.

  • Operator: Cabify, Uber, Bolt
  • Duration: 25–40 min
  • Price: €25–35
  • Frequency: On demand via app
  • Where to board: Designated VTC pick-up points (T1 floor 0, T4 floor –1)
  • Notes: Surge pricing applies during evening peak and on rainy days. Reserve in the app before claiming your luggage to avoid waiting.

When should you pick each option?

  • Cercanías C-1: Cheapest and most reliable in daytime if you are arriving at T4.
  • Express Aeropuerto bus: Only round-the-clock option; best for late-night arrivals.
  • Metro: Useful if your accommodation is on a Metro line and you have light luggage.
  • Taxi (fixed €33): Best for groups, heavy luggage or arriving with kids.
  • Cabify / Uber / Bolt: When the fixed taxi fare is unavailable (rank empty) or you want app-based payment.

What are the practical tips?

  • If you arrive after 23:30 the Cercanías and Metro stop running; use the 24-hour Express Aeropuerto bus or a taxi.
  • Children under 4 ride free on Metro and Cercanías when accompanied by a paying adult.
  • The Express Aeropuerto bus does NOT stop at Sol directly — get off at Cibeles and walk 5 minutes down Calle de Alcalá.
  • For groups of 3–4 with luggage the fixed €33 taxi is usually cheaper than four separate train tickets and far faster door-to-door.
